EC agrees to exempt LDCs from IP rules indefinitely

The European Commission has agreed to a new proposal which would indefinitely exempt the least developed countries, or LDCs, from the World Trade Organization’s intellectual property rules for pharmaceutical products. This move was done in order to allow countries with little economic development to gain access to generic drugs, regardless of patents.
