Lupin Arm to pay Bayer Damages Over Patent Infringement

An Australian court has asked the Australian arm of Lupin to pay A$30 million to Bayer in a patent infringement case. Bayer began the lawsuit over alleged infringement of its patent for its Yasmin contraceptive. Bayer claimed that Generic Health, the Australian arm of Lupin, violated that patent by marketing its Isabelle drug. Lupin acquired a controlling stake in Generic Health in 2010 in a move that gave the Indian firm access to the Australian pharma market.
